Bee City Zoo

The Lowcountry is full of natural wonders and a wide variety of interesting activities. If you are looking for a change from the beaches of Hilton Head Island and the shops of Old Town Bluffton, make memories that last a lifetime with a family day trip to the Bee City Zoo in Cottageville, SC. A family owned business for over 30 years, Bee City Zoo is both a bee farm and an interactive zoo.

Honeybees pollinate $15 billion worth of crops, including over 130 varieties of fruits, nuts and trees in the United States alone. Bee City focuses on educating the public about the crucial role honeybees play in the balance of nature and the maintenance of our food supply as well as the fine art of beekeeping. The honey and beeswax of the Bee City honeybees finds its way to consumers in the form of pure raw honey, creamed honey, honey mustard, beeswax lotions, balms, soaps, candles and more. You can check out their products here https://www.beecityhoney.shop/shop-online.

The interactive zoo is sure to provide a unique experience for the whole family. Petting zoo doesn’t begin to describe Bee City Zoo. While there are certainly an array of farm animals (sheep, goats, bunnies, donkeys, turkeys, chickens and miniature horses, to name a few) there are also wallabies, cavies, serval cats, ringtail lemurs, monkeys, a snow leopard, giraffes and more!

For a more intimate experience, private animal encounters are available with a few of the zoo’s baby and special ambassador animals. Animal encounters are provided in a private area allowing for hands-on interaction. You can book your private encounter online at https://www.beecityzoo.com/encounters.

Bee City Zoo also has a reptile center complete with South Carolina native frogs, turtles, snakes and alligators. Have fun and learn a thing or two about reptiles and amphibians at the same time!

You are welcome to bring your own food (as long as you don’t share any of it with the animals) or you can purchase lunch at the zoo cafe. Admission is $18 ($16 for military and senior citizens). For hours of operation and more information go to https://www.beecityzoo.com.
